The Rev. Dr. Robert E. Rodgers, a native of Suffolk and current minister at Pulaski Baptist Church, will have an honors dormitory named after him at the Virginia University of Lynchburg.

The announcement was made earlier this month.

Rodgers accepted the call to preach in May 1970 and become pastor of Pulaski Baptist Church in Carrsville in September 1971. He continues to serve there and is in his 42nd year as pastor.

Rodgers has served as a member of several ministerial organizations in the Hampton Roads area, including the University Ministers Conference. He is a past moderator of the Sharon Baptist Association and Allied Bodies and past president of the Suffolk Interdenominational Ministers Conference of Virginia.

Rodgers also is a U.S. Navy veteran and also retired from the Naval Supply Center in Norfolk.

Founded in 1886, Virginia University of Lynchburg is a private, historically black university. Rodgers has served on the board of trustees and currently serves as its treasurer.
