The King’s Fork High School boys’ basketball team recovered from a difficult home loss on Tuesday to beat host Denbigh High School on Friday in overtime, 46-43.
Bulldogs head coach Josh Worrell liked what he saw from his team.
“I was happy that they listen and they continue to believe in what I want them to do and did exactly what I asked them to do in tight situations,” he said.
A short-handed Bulldogs squad got a late lift by sophomore Keith Stagg to keep them in the game. Stagg made a layup with 25 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at 41.
Denbigh took a 43-41 lead in overtime, but then the Bulldogs’ defense held on, and Stagg scored all five of his team’s points in the extra period.
He ended up with 11 for the game, and junior Justin Chicot had 10.
Several King’s Fork players were out due to illness.
“We pieced it together,” Worrell said. “I think we had more people in dress clothes than jerseys last night.”
King’s Fork (9-6, 2-2) hosted Hampton High School on Saturday night in the Bulldog Showcase.
