Gloria Franklin Richards

Gloria “Boo” Franklin Richards of Walnut Street in Suffolk died Jan. 22, 2014, at Sentara Obici Hospital.
A native of Suffolk, Gloria was born March 10, 1925, to the late Robert C. Franklin Sr. and Gertrude Franklin. She received her education in the Suffolk Public School System, followed by Paul D. Camp Community College.
Marrying the late Alvin Grant Richards Sr. in 1945, Gloria was a dedicated wife, homemaker and mother of three.
Gloria was a long-standing member of First Baptist Church, Mahan. She proudly served as a deaconess and member of the Helping Hands and Birthday Clubs. Passionate about the community, she also served as president of the Suffolk Boosterettes Club and member of Household of Ruth.
Survivors include her brother, Jack A. Franklin; son, Alfred M. Richards; daughter, Sharon Alethia Richards Martin; son-in-law, Steve Watkins Martin Sr.; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held Monday at noon at East End Baptist Church, 523 E. Washington St. Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
Viewing will begin Sunday evening at Crocker Funeral Home.
The family will assemble for the procession at the residence at 11 a.m.
