Brite earns first team all-conference honor

Former Nansemond River High School player Dontrell Brite was recently named to the first team of the 2013-14 All-Conference Carolinas Men’s Basketball Team following his impressive sophomore year at the University of Mount Olive.

When he received the honor, he ranked ninth in the conference in both scoring and assists, averaging 16.8 points and 3.6 assists per game, and ranked third in steals, with 1.6 per game.

He had scored in double figures in each of his last 15 games, including a career-high 27-point effort during a Feb. 22 win at Limestone College. He followed that up on Feb. 25 with 26 points, including 16-for-19 from the foul line, to lead his team past Barton College.

The win over Barton gave Mount Olive the No. 1 seed in the conference tourney and a share of the regular season conference championship.

The Trojans ended up falling to Limestone in the conference tournament semifinals 75-57 on March 5. Mount Olive concluded the season with a 19-9 overall record, 12-4 in the conference.
