Leila Bailey Stone

SUFFOLK — Leila Bailey Stone, 97, passed away at her home in Suffolk on March 24, 2014. She was born in Montgomery, Ala. on July 3, 1916, one of twin girls to the late W. H. Bailey and Ollie Coleman Bailey. She is predeceased by her husband, Leonard Ray Stone Sr.; stepdaughter, Fredna Stone George; daughter-in-law, Victoria Cockburn Stone; and her sisters, Eleanor McLellan, Frances Stapp and Lanelle Holliman.

Leila was a compassionate Christian and lifelong member of the historic Pickensville Methodist Church in Alabama. She was a true genteel Southern lady who believed in “Hate the sin, but love the sinner.”

Leila is survived by her devoted son, Leonard Ray Stone Jr., of Suffolk; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Stone Stewart and Donald Stewart, of Dallas, Texas; granddaughter, Virginia M. Stone; grandson, Leonard R. Stone III; and half-brother, Sam Bailey, of Opelika, Ala.

A graveside service will be held at Holly Lawn Cemetery on Friday, March 28, 2014, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Charles W. Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends at her residence on Thursday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
