IWA girls charge to championship

The Isle of Wight Academy softball team used a 13-0 win over visiting Atlantic Shores Christian School on Thursday to advance to this afternoon’s Metro Conference championship game.

Lady Chargers sophomore Trish Webb of Suffolk got the win on the mound against the Lady Seahawks, throwing 12 strikeouts.

On offense, eighth-grader Kaylin Manner hit a triple and Webb had two doubles.

The two teams had faced each other only three days prior at Atlantic Shores to close out the regular season. The Lady Chargers were victorious then, 6-0, as Webb threw five strikeouts, allowed one walk and no hits. She tripled on offense, as did freshman Hailey Lane.

IWA (11-4) will play Broadwater Academy for the conference championship today, with a 4:30 p.m. start time at Atlantic Shores Christian School.
