Woman’s Club announces scholarships

The Suffolk Woman’s club recently announced its 2014 scholarship winners.

Lauren Alexandra Joyner graduated from Lakeland High School and will attend James Madison University to major in nursing. She was a member of the National Honor Society, captain for the varsity soccer team, Peanut Fest princess, member of the Goober Gang, certified with the American Red Cross and a volunteer for a local food bank. She also attended the Mountcastle School of Dance for 13 years. She is the daughter of William and Janine Joyner.

Chelsea Dawn Ellis also graduated from Lakeland High School and has completed her freshman year at Christopher Newport University, where she is majoring in business management with a minor in leadership studies, civil engagement and social entrepreneurship. At Lakeland, she was a violinist for the school orchestra, a delegate at the Virginia High School League’s Student Leadership Conference, member of the National Honor Society, graduate of the Suffolk Leadership Academy and member of the Goober Gang. She volunteered at the Zuni Home, various nursing homes, Avalon Home for Women and Children and Operation Smile. She attended the 2011 Operation Smile Intern Student Leadership Conference in Dublin, Ireland. In 2013, she received scholarships from the President’s Leadership Program, the Suffolk Ruritan Club and Drs. L.T. and Margaret Reid. She is the daughter of Michael and Janice Ellis.
