Izaak Walton League presents scholarships

The Suffolk-Nansemond Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America recently presented two $1,000 scholarships to local students.

Samuel Gittelman graduated from Smithfield High School with a grade point average of 4.12. He plans to attend Virginia Tech to attain a Bachelor of Arts degree in environmental resource conservation to work toward a career in forest resource management and conservation.

Matthew Herrmann graduated from Isle of Wight Academy with a grade point average of 4.18. He also will attend Virginia Tech to major in agronomy. His career goal is to return to Isle of Wight County to work with farmers on improving crop yields while lessening environmental impact.
