Wilbert J. Greene, 71, died Monday, July 28, 2014, at Waverly Health Care Center. He was a native of Southampton County, and the son of the late Isaac Wilmore Greene and Rena Idell Greene.

He attended Hill School, Southampton County. He retired from Syracuse Public Works in Syracuse, N.Y. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Ivor.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Hattie Marie Greene; stepson, Mark Joe, of Suffolk; three sisters, Florence Lee Nichols (Charlie), of Wakefield, Emma Harris, of Gaithersburg, Md., and Gannie Stith, of Syracuse, N.Y.; five brothers, Benjamin Greene (Caroline), Jessie Greene, both of Syracuse, N.Y., Washington Greene, of Long Island, N.Y., Thomas Greene (Barbara), of Ivor, and Emory Greene (Lucinda), of Drewryville; sisters-in-law, Louise Whitney, Mary Perish, Virginia Ricks, Saddie Joe and Patricia Claiborne, Irene Johnson; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Joe, George Joe III, Charlie Nichols and Clarence Joe; other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 10686 Ivor Road, Ivor, officiated by the Rev. William T. Smith. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Thomas and Barbara Greene, 36148 Broadwater Road, Ivor. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
