Theodore Wade Potter

Theodore Wade Potter, born Sept. 22, 1936, in Piqua, Ohio, died Aug. 24, 2014, at Riverside Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late Helen Clark and Dwain O. Potter.

Ted was active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary for 28 years and was currently the District Commodore of the Fifth Southern Region. He was a dedicated member of Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities including teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir.

Ted is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Wills Potter; children, Betsy and husband, Steve McBee, Wade and wife, Brenda Potter, Kristen and husband, Jeff Nelson; grandchildren, Kate Mitchell, Shelby Mitchell, Jennifer Moheiser, Heather Stauder, Brandon Potter, Cory Blount, Dulcy Miller, Sydney Nelson, Kaleb Nelson; great-grandchildren, Stephen Moheiser, Thomas Moheiser, Eve Stauder, Nate Stauder, Brayden Blount; numerous nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Martha W. Glenn and Marjorie R. Wills. We wish to thank the oncology staff of Riverside Regional Medical Center 5 West for their love, support and concern during this time.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Aug. 28, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 11835 Canon Blvd., Newport News, VA 23606, or a charity of your choice. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
