Tony Douglas Powell Sr., 47, of 1712 Pine Acres Lane, Suffolk, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, in Franklin. He was a native of Southampton County and the son of Hercules Powell and Mary J. Joe-Powell.

He attended Tidewater Tech. He was employed as a bandsaw operator at Smithfield Packing Meat Company.

Besides his parents, he leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Tawana S. Foster-Powell; three daughters, Lakitia Butt (Earl Jr.), of Franklin, Teonia Ricks, both of Franklin, and Shaquanda Foster (Pierre), of Suffolk; five sons, Brandon Smith (Tameiko), of Aulander, N.C., Avrick Ricks (Reba), of Dreweryville, Tony Powell Jr., KeMonta Powell, and Quamari Byron, all of Suffolk; goddaughter, Honesti Amor James, of Sedley; godson, Davaren White, of Suffolk; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Ann Kindred (Eric), Annette Williams (Bobby), both of Franklin, and Cornelia Seaborne, of Sedley; three brothers, Hercules Powell Jr., of Virginia Beach, Kenneth Powell (Deborah), of Zuni, and Steve Powell (Adrienne), of Chesapeake; mother-in-law, Connie Pope, of Suffolk; a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at Apostolic Faith Church of God, 608 Oak St., Franklin, officiated by Dr. Eugene Austin. Interment will be in Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
