Homearama events lined up

Train rides will be available for Homearama’s tiniest visitors throughout the event.
With about six weeks until opening day, Homearama is rapidly approaching.
The houses are in progress at the Waterfront at Parkside neighborhood near Bennett’s Creek Park. Decorators and landscapers are making their plans and ordering their materials. Vendors are putting together plans for their booths at the event.
But the homes and the vendors will be hard pressed to overshadow the fun and entertainment that awaits visitors on each of three themed weekends in October and November.
“Everyone is welcome to come out and join us at our unforgettable fall Homearama at the Waterfront at Parkside,” said Sam Cohen, chairman of the event.
The Peanut City Cloggers will perform during the first weekend of Homearama, themed “Suffolk Harvest.”
This year’s event runs for three consecutive four-day weekends. Each has a different theme with accompanying entertainment, activities, food and displays.
Tiny-Rama, a playland for Homearama’s smallest guests, will be open during the event. It will feature a tiny train to transport tots on a ride around the lots.
The first weekend, Oct. 17-20, is “Suffolk Harvest” weekend. The Peanut City Cloggers will perform, and a farmers’ market will take place in the special event tent. Local musical entertainment and a hayride through Bennett’s Creek will be offered.
The popular Flavor of Suffolk program will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 20.
Oct. 24-27 is the Beer, Bratwurst and Boats weekend. The daily beer tastings from 4 to 7 p.m. are an obvious feature. The Colonial Seaport Foundation will bring the region’s past to life with its colonial maritime history display and re-enactors. Scallywag School will teach young guests the art of knot-tying, modern-day power boats will be on display and hearty German fare will be offered in the concessions.
The final weekend, Oct. 31 to Nov. 3, is the Salute to the Military weekend. All active-duty, retired and reserve personnel will receive buy one, get one free admission all weekend. Local and national veterans support organizations and ROTC students will be on hand, as well as high school marching bands and jump demonstrations by Skydive Suffolk.
