The King’s Fork High School football team had another slow start offensively on Friday night, but it gained momentum as the game progressed at Woodrow Wilson High School, returning home with a 34-0 shutout of the Presidents.

Bulldogs junior feature back Deshaun Wethington got his team on the board with a 17-yard touchdown run with 52 seconds remaining in the first quarter. He also added another rushing score from three yards out about midway through the second quarter.

“We had a little bit of a sluggish start again, but played well defensively,” KF coach Joe Jones said.

Senior defensive back Kane Miskel put the Bulldogs up 20-0 going into halftime when he intercepted the Presidents and ran 34 yards for a touchdown.

Jones noted the offense came alive in the second quarter and also the second half.

Junior quarterback Ryan Kluck completed a 10-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Sergio Grant in the third quarter, and Wethington recorded his third touchdown of the game with a 36-yard run in the fourth.

The Bulldogs generated 255 yards of offense while holding Wilson to 77.

Wethington had 19 carries for 153 yards, averaging 8.1 yards a carry, and Kluck went 6-for-10 passing for 73 yards.

Alluding to the room for improvement remaining for the Bulldogs, Jones said he is “looking forward to an open week this week and (getting) some things put in that we need to.”

King’s Fork (2-0) returns to the gridiron on Sept. 19, hosting Grassfield High School.
