UPDATE 4:45 p.m.: The James River Bridge southbound is open in both lanes up to the drawbridge. Past the drawbridge, only the left lane is open.
UPDATE 11:40 a.m.: The James River Bridge’s left lane in the southbound direction is now open to tractor-trailers only.
Earlier: Motorists traveling in both directions on the James River Bridge should expect delays today.
The southbound side of the bridge is closed because of standing water, according to a VDOT spokeswoman. That traffic is being diverted to one lane of the northbound side of the bridge.
At 9 a.m., traffic was backed up about three miles, the spokeswoman said.
The following roads in Suffolk have high water but are passable, according to a city spokeswoman:
- Mineral Spring Road
- Greenway Road
- Everets Road and Moore Farm Lane
- Godwin Boulevard in the 5400 block
- Crittenden Road in the 6000 block
