‘Taken way too soon’

The Suffolk man found shot dead in a car in Chesapeake Tuesday night was an Outer Banks native who played football and lacrosse in high school and “had a wonderful personality,” family friend Connie Roman said.
Trevor Daniel Baldwin, 20, of Pinewood Circle, was killed by one shot that went through his arm and into his chest, his mother, Melinda Baldwin, said police have told her.

His car was found up against a tree on Dunedin Drive in Chesapeake about 9:18 p.m., according to a police spokeswoman.
No arrest has been made.
“He was taken way too soon,” Melinda Baldwin said, adding that she had a close relationship with her son. “He was my baby. If I ever got him talking, he would not shut up.”
Trevor and his older brother, Troy, were only 14 months apart in age. They were “tight as two ticks,” Baldwin said, adding that she is worried about how Troy will adapt.
Baldwin attended Shenandoah University after graduating high school and made the football team there, but left the college afterward. He has been working for his dad’s business since the family recently moved to Suffolk.
He had a girlfriend and was thinking about joining a local men’s lacrosse league, she added.
Baldwin said she has been overwhelmed by the show of support from her son’s friends and former classmates.
“It’s overwhelming how much people cared and the things they said about him, even people that were not tight with him,” she said. “I had no earthly idea there was that many people that cared enough to take the time to say something nice.”
Baldwin said her son’s death was “very unnecessary.”
“If anybody knows anything, I want them to come forward,” she said. “I need that closure, but it’s not going to bring him back.”
Baldwin also had some advice for other parents out there:
“Hug your child and tell them that you love them,” she said.
Baldwin will be buried today. He is survived by both of his parents, his brother, his grandmothers and many other family and friends.
