Voter registration deadline today

For anyone not already registered, Tuesday is the deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 4 general election.
Citizens can register in person at the Human Resources Building, 440 Market St., first floor, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Registrations are accepted online at www.vote.virginia.gov.
By mail, Virginia Voter Registration Applications are available at the Department of Motor Vehicles, 268 Holladay St., open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., from public assistant agency offices or a city library.
They can be downloaded by clicking on the link at www.suffolkva.us/registrar/voter-registration, where more information on voting can also be found. Mail applications before the end of Tuesday to: General Registrar, P.O Box 1966, Suffolk, VA 23439.
To be eligible to register to vote, you need to be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age on Nov. 4, and be a Virginia resident. You must also not be registered and plan to vote in another state, not be declared mentally incompetent by a court of law, and if convicted of a felony, your right to vote must have been restored.
Meanwhile, Virginia now requires voters to present photo identification in person at their polling place. Valid IDs include a Virginia driver’s license or identification card, Virginia DMV-issued military ID card, U.S. passport, other government-issued photo identification, valid college or university student photo identification card from a Virginia institution, or employee identification card containing a photograph.
