SUFFOLK — James William Hall Jr., 75, passed away Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014. He was born in Suffolk to the late Bessie and James William Hall Sr. He is predeceased by his sister, Frances May Hall Hoggard.

James was fascinated with aviation, and for many years he built, hand-painted and flew model airplanes that resembled fighter plans of World War II. He was an avid reader and fed his curious mind with books and by investigating topics of interest on the Internet. His love of the cinema led to a collection of more than 1,000 movies, including spaghetti westerns and classics like “The African Queen” and “Casablanca.”

He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn Hines, and husband, Bruce, and granddaughter, Quinby Hines, all of Suffolk.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, Oct. 27, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, from 3 to 4 p.m. at the home of Bruce and Kathryn Hines. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W.
