Player of the week nominees

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:
- Jacob Crowell, senior for Lakeland High School cross country: He cut 27 seconds off of his time the previous week to pull off a last-second individual win in the Ironclad Conference cross country championships on Thursday. He fought through an injury to produce a personal record time of 16:51.94, passing the second-place runner in the last 10 yards and repeating as conference champion.
- Brooks Gillerlain, senior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy volleyball: She has put her team’s hitters in a position to succeed at an impressive rate during the conference tournament this week and has also made solid serving and defensive contributions. She had 39 assists, three aces and 10 digs in Tuesday’s 3-0 quarterfinal win and produced 40 assists and three aces in Friday’s 3-0 semifinal win.
- Casey Williams, sophomore for Nansemond River High School cross country: She fulfilled her season-long goal of winning the girls’ individual Ironclad Conference cross country championship on Thursday. She finished the 5000-meter run with a time of 20:59.33, about 45 seconds faster than her nearest competitor. Her performance also contributed to a 25-point Lady Warriors team win.
