Player of the Week nominees

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

  • Ryan Kluck, junior for King’s Fork High School football: He turned in a great performance on Friday night to help make the Bulldogs’ first-ever home football playoff game one fans can cherish. He scored the first rushing touchdown of his varsity career on a 51-yard run and he went 3-for-4 passing for 71 yards, helping fuel a 38-3 victory over Grafton High School.
  • Convon’Tra Revell, senior for Lakeland High School football: Even against No. 1-seeded, undefeated host Lake Taylor High School in Friday night’s playoff game, he continued to be a key part of a Cavaliers’ secondary that Cavs coach Bryan Potts has had consistently high confidence in this year. Despite Lakeland’s 28-0 loss, Revell came up with an interception to cap off his strong season.
  • Nicholas Gill, junior for Nansemond River High School cross country: He came about a second away from beating his personal record in the 5,000-meter run while navigating a much more difficult course than he is used to during Saturday’s Group 4A state championships. He finished with a time of 17:21.00, good for 55th out of 104 runners at the Great Meadow Foundation in The Plains.
