Senior Kara Lyles became the first state champion of 2015 for Nansemond River High School’s indoor track and field program.

She won the girls’ long jump with a 19-foot-11.25-inch leap during the Virginia High School League Group 4A state indoor track and field championships, which were ongoing on Tuesday in Lynchburg.

Lyles also took second in the high jump, leaping 5-feet-4-inches.
