Family Fun Day set

At Nansemond River Baptist Church, the entire community is working toward an event to celebrate the arrival of sunny skies over God’s creation, according to Pastor Mark Turner.
The church, at 2896 Bridge Road, will host its first Family Fun Day next Saturday, March 28.
Nansemond River Baptist is inviting anyone and everyone.
“We were looking for a way to serve the community and really help families out, and figure out a way to do something that would connect us with them,” said Turner, who oversees the family ministry.
“We wanted something, for all age groups, that would be inviting and fun — really celebrating being outside.”
It was also important, according to Turner, to connect the event to Easter — when Christians celebrate Christ’s resurrection from the dead — which is the following weekend.
Turner said there would be two age-appropriate egg hunts, at 2:30 p.m., for ages 2 to 5, and 3:15 p.m., for first- through fifth-graders.
“That will be the most organized component, where people would want to be on time,” Turner said.
They’ll be plenty of candy to go around, according to Turner. He described “all sorts of games and stations and treats,” including a bounce house, face-painting and balloon animals.
“We are hoping that we get good weather, where we can go outside and enjoy the wonder of God’s creation, and one another, and spring,” he said.
Putting on the event is a “whole-church effort,” Turner said, adding, “Every ministry and aid group of our church is pitching in and doing something, whether manning a booth, organizing games, painting faces or blowing up balloons.
“It’s completely free, for anyone who wants to come. It’s just our way of giving something back.”
The fun starts at 2 p.m.
