Route 460 not a viable evacuation route

To the editor:
I keep reading about U.S. Route 460 as a hurricane evacuation route.
Someone ought to talk with the emergency management coordinators for the Tidewater cities. They will tell you that folks would have to leave three days before a hurricane made landfall in order to be safely evacuated.
But when the skies are blue, no one is going to leave, so, it would appear that they need another reason.
I remember when the flood was above the telephone poles on Route 460 at Zuni. If the proposed new roadway is not that high, what’s the point?
