Ethel M. Dirtion, 83, of 209 S. Lloyd St., Suffolk, died Sunday, May 10, 2015, at her residence. She was a native of Suffolk and the daughter of the late Ozzie and Emma Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Dirtion.

She retired from Planters Peanut Company after 40 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church Mahan Street, where she was a member of the Senior Usher Board, Mother’s Club, Caring and Sharing Ministry, Sunday School, Willing Workers Club, Hospitality Ministry, Pastors Aide, Hoffler Home for Adults and senior Bible study member. Ms. Dirtion was honored as mother of the year at First Baptist in 2007. She was also honored by the Suffolk Chapter of Las Amigas Inc. She was a member of the Lloyd’s Place Civic League.

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Deborah R. Jennings, of Suffolk; four sons, Reginald Dirtion (Eva), Rodney Dirtion (La’Trina) and William Drakeford, all of Suffolk, and Stewart Dirtion (Daphne), of Pasadena, Md.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Juanita Dirtion; brother-in-law, David Dirtion; godsons, Justin Goodman and Jay Richards; other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2015, at First Baptist Church, 112 Mahan St., officiated by the Rev. Dr. Steven G. Blunt. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at Crocker Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 308 S. Division St., Suffolk.
