Folks who recycle at home can help the Friends of the Suffolk Library, which is the featured charity for Recycling Perks’ Give Back Campaign for the month of May.
Anyone who uses their TFC Recycling container can go to www.recyclingperks.com to redeem 20 points for a $5 donation to the organization, which supports the summer reading program at the library.
“It’s such an easy program to get the money,” said Karen Richter, president of the Friends of the Suffolk Library.
The friends, a volunteer group, hold a used book sale on the first weekend of every month at their 300 Carolina Road location. After paying rent and expenses, everything goes to the library, Richter said.
Donated books sell at 25 cents for paperbacks, 50 cents for a softcover or $1 for a hardcover. “New” books are $2. Children’s books at 50 cents an inch.
“That makes a huge difference for those families that can’t really afford to go out and buy the books,” Richter said.
Recycling Perks points are accumulated every time a TFC customer puts his can out for collection. For each account that donates 20 points during the month of May, Friends of the Suffolk Library will receive $5.
“The maximum we can make is $1,000,” Richter said. “We just need 200 people to donate points.”
