Accountability needed for U.N.

To the editor:
Congressman Randy Forbes’ recent column on why we need more accountability for the funding that the U.S. provides to the United Nations was right on target.
It has always frustrated me to see billions of American taxpayers’ dollars being forked over to the U.N., without any guarantee that it is going towards promoting peace, democracy, or supporting U.S. interests abroad.
The legislation Forbes is cosponsoring to add accountability and transparency into the process is not just a good first step — it’s common sense. “We the People” have a right to know where our taxpayer dollars are going and how that money is being spent.
Thank you to Congressman Forbes for standing for common sense, and to the Suffolk News-Herald for publishing that piece.
