Giles shines at state track meet

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy junior Noah Giles produced a remarkable performance in Saturday’s Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II state outdoor track and field championships in Richmond.

He took first in the 100-meter dash and first in the triple jump, and he was part of the winning boys’ 4×100-meter relay team. He also took third in the 200-meter dash, second in the long jump and fourth in the high jump to be named the state MVP of the field events.

Joining Giles on the 4×100 team was Philip Lanzafame, David Richter and Jack Burns.

Chandler Bergeron claimed second in the girls’ 3,200-meter run and third in the 1,600-meter run. Gabby Henson was third in the girls’ long jump and fourth in the triple jump, and Kaylee Moore took fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.

Among the other NSA boys competing, Gustav Berner took fourth in the 3,200-meter run, and he was part of the 4×800-meter relay team that took fifth, joined by Abram Maxwell, Christian Berner and Aidan Watts.

David Richter finished in fourth in the 200-meter dash and seventh in the 100. In the 300-meter hurdles, Owen Firnstahl placed eighth.
