The Churchland and Portsmouth Rotary clubs’ annual combined barbecue is returning to North Suffolk on Wednesday.
The 33rd event will be held at the former Tidewater Community College campus off College Drive, from 3 to 9:30 p.m.
“It’s going to be a good time — a good time celebrating our community service projects throughout this year,” said Frankie Edmondson, president of Portsmouth Rotary Club.
It’s an opportunity to renew old friendships and create new ones, Edmonson said, adding, “Really it’s all about relationships.”
“You see a lot of the same people coming out” from one year to the next, he said.
Strictly Bizzness — an area party band — will provide the music, and Rodman’s Bar-B-Que of Shoulders Hill Road will provide the food.
“It’s good food, good fun and good fellowship, and all for a good cause,” Edmonson said.
All proceeds go to local community organizations and philanthropic endeavors, he said, citing Edmarc, Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve and Meals on Wheels as examples.
“We do cultural-type things as well,” Edmondson said. “We are looking at the total quality of life of citizens in what I consider the tri-city (Suffolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake) area.”
Tickets are $35 in advance and $45 at the gate — unchanged from last year. To purchase tickets online, visit www.portsmouthvarotary.org/BBQTIX.html.
Admission includes all of the barbecue and chicken you can eat, plus soft drinks and adult beverages. Desserts can be purchased.
