Hail, strong winds possible

Thunderstorms could bring hail, damaging winds and heavy rain to Suffolk on Tuesday, according to a Wakefield-based meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
Rolling down from Canada, the system is due in Suffolk in the afternoon or evening, said Jeff Orrock.
“If we get enough heating (during the day), we’ll get some instability,” he said.
“The main threat is going to be hail and damaging winds; enough wind to blow trees down. There could be isolated tornadoes.”
The system will be on the move, Orrock said, adding downpours may cause some localized flooding in Hampton Roads, but not as bad as on Saturday.
In Suffolk, Orrock said, Saturday’s thunderstorms brought from 2 to 3 inches or more.
The heaviest rain, he said, was in Harbour View, as the storm moved into Churchland, Portsmouth, Norfolk and parts of Virginia Beach.
The chance of showers will return on Thursday, Orrock said.
