A Suffolk man has pleaded guilty to a shooting in which his mother was also involved.
Taquan Deandra Burton, 21, shot a 20-year-old victim on July 20, 2013, in the 300 block of Wellons Street about 10:40 p.m. that Saturday. He required surgery to help heal his wounds.
Burton’s mother, Gwendolyn Lee Burton-Green, told her son to shoot the man, prosecutor George Bruch said.
Burton is set to be sentenced on Sept. 25 on charges of aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, shoot or stab in commission of a felony and possessing a gun as a nonviolent felon within 10 years.
His mother was found guilty last August and was sentenced in October. She will serve 14 years in prison and 10 years on supervised probation. She also has a suspended sentence of 21 years.
