A Suffolk man has been charged in an armed robbery in Chesapeake on Saturday morning.
Peter Jackson, 44, of the 4400 block of Clifton Street, is charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of abduction, malicious wounding, and wearing a mask in public.
Police were called to the 7-Eleven in the 800 block of Canal Drive about 8 a.m. Saturday, according to police spokeswoman Kelly O’Sullivan. Witnesses said the suspect entered the store, wearing a mask and armed with a box cutter. He went behind the counter where two clerks were standing, retrieved the cash drawer and fled on foot, according to O’Sullivan.
Two adult male customers chased the suspect outside and tackled him. One of the men, age 52, was cut in the chest by the suspect during the struggle, according to O’Sullivan.
Police arrived and took the suspect into custody. The injured victim was transported to Chesapeake Regional Hospital and is expected to recover.
Jackson is being held at the Chesapeake City Jail.
