Two cars crashed into a retail building in the 400 block of Carolina Road on Tuesday afternoon.

The crash was reported at 3:05 p.m. and involved a Chrysler Sebring and a Honda Accord, according to a city news release. The retail building, formerly Uptown Varieties, was not occupied at the time of the accident.

Five patients — three males and two females — were ground transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, according to the release.

Officials from Neighborhood Development Services will inspect the building, which sustained damage.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
