Tonya Sherrell Chamblee

Mrs. Tonya Sherrell Chamblee, 41, affectionately known as “Dink,” entered into eternal rest and received her heavenly wings on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015, peacefully in her home. Tonya was a native of Suffolk, born Dec. 29, 1973, to Sandra E. Walker and Christopher L. Barrett Sr.

Tonya graduated from Lakeland High School and The Stop Organization CNA Nursing Program. She worked as a CNA at Sentara Nursing Center in Portsmouth.

She was a devoted member of Saint Paul Baptist Church.

Tonya is survived by her husband of 22 years, James Chamblee; her parents; sons, Tiaveon Walker and Joe Chamblee; daughter, LaTonya Chamblee; grandson, Kaiden Walker; sisters, LaCisha Walker, Latoyia Adedapo, Benita Barrett, Jasmine Barrett, Jessica Gibson and Sabrina Parker; brothers, Christopher L. Barrett Jr., Max Aaron L. Barrett, Jewel Barrett, Donta Barrett, Zollie Barrett and Amon Cross; mother-in-law, Katie L. Chamblee; sisters-in-law, Emma Robinson (Tony), Katie Sawyer (Windal Sr.), Nancy Jones (Linwood), Alice Branch (Michael), Darlene Chamblee (Kenny Sr.), Shelia Weatherspoon (Gregory Sr.) and Charlene Chamblee; brothers-in-law, Lewis Chamblee (Audrey), Wilbur Chamblee (Frances), of North Carolina, Michael Chamblee (Alijeanna), David Chamblee, Randy Chamblee, Arthur Chamblee (Shelia), Grady Chamblee (Annette), Shelton Chamblee, Calvin Chamblee (Nicole) and Melivin Chamblee (Shemika) and a host of other family members and friends.

Mrs. Chamblee’s visitation will take place from noon to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at the funeral home. A home going service will take place at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at New Mount Joy Food for Living Ministry Church, and she will be laid to rest at Carver Memorial Cemetery. Eulogy by Bishop C.V. Russell III, pastor of Saint Paul Baptist Church.
