Shirley W. Pugh, 77, of Georgia Avenue, Suffolk, died Monday, Oct. 19, 2015, at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was a native of Suffolk and the daughter of the late Leon Green Sr. and Lola Green. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Brenda Pugh Gatling and Cynthia Pugh White; and one brother, David Green.

She attended East Suffolk High School. She retired as a machinist from Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 20 years. She was a member of Rising St. James PHC, where she was the past president of the senior choir, former gospel chorus member, former member of the Pastor’s Aide and former member of the kitchen committee. Shirley was a member of the senior citizen choir at Suffolk Parks and Recreation.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Fletcher R. Pugh; daughter, Angelia Branch (Levern), of Suffolk; one son, Fletcher Pugh III, of Suffolk; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Woodley, of Suffolk; two brothers, Leon Green Jr. (Yvonne), of Suffolk, Edward F. Green (Eunice), of Williamston, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Olivia Pugh, of Baltimore, Md., and Patricia Green; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 at Rising St. James PHC officiated by Elder Sean Gaines. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
