Nine displaced in fire

Two families, including five children, were displaced in a fire late Sunday evening.
Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews responded to the blaze in the 100 block of Chestnut Street in downtown Suffolk. It was reported at 11:02 p.m. and the first units arrived on scene at 11:06 p.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke showing from the second floor of the two-story duplex. The fire was called under control at 11:26 p.m.
Two families have been displaced as a result of the fire, including two adults and two children upstairs, and two adults and three children downstairs being assisted by the American Red Cross. There were no injuries.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
