Suffolk teen named Officer of the Month at Fishburne

Fishburne Military School announced last week that Cadet First Lieutenant Jacob Owens of Suffolk was named Officer of the Month for November 2015.

Owens is a senior and the son of Ms. Angela Cuci. He is a member of the Key Club and serves as the logistics officer at Fishburne.

Officer of the Month is selected by a board of officers from the Offices of the Commandant, JRTOC, Headmaster and Superintendent of the school. An Officer of the Month is selected based upon his academic, military and community achievements throughout the previous month.

Cadets earning this award enjoy an additional town pass and are granted special seating during meals.

“This young man has shown tremendous growth and leadership potential over the course of the last month,” said Col. Gary R. Morrison, Fishburne Class of 1981, the school’s superintendent. “His efforts should serve as an example to all of us that hard work and focus are the true keys to success. Congratulations to Mr. Owens for achieving this honor.”

Fishburne is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built upon the structure of an Army JROTC program.
