Ernest M. Stagg, 71, of Pearl Street, transitioned Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, at his residence.

Ernest is a native of Suffolk and the son of the late Margaret and Charlie Stagg. Ernest was educated in Suffolk Public Schools. He was employed by the City of Portsmouth and retired in 1985. Mr. Stagg was a member of First Baptist Church on Mahan Street, where he was affiliated with numerous auxiliaries such as the Brotherhood Ministry, Male Usher Ministry and Kitchen Staff. Ernest was also a member of the Boosters Club.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Joyce A. Stagg; daughter, Donna; three sons, Keith, Stephen and Craig; five sisters; one brother; four grandchildren; one aunt; three sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law; two daughters-in-law; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11, 2016, at First Baptist Church, 112 Mahan St. The Rev. Dr. Steven Blunt will deliver the eulogy. He will be laid to rest in Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery. Condolences to the Stagg family may be extended to www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
