DECA students win awards

Nansemond River High School DECA members recently competed in DECA’s District 21 Leadership Conference at Chesapeake Square Mall.
Winners from Nansemond River include:
- Job interviewing — Tiecura Hill, 3rd place overall
- Selling — Dejala Stiff, 1st place overall
- Automotive Services — Dante Venvertloh, 2nd place comprehensive exam, automotive services; 1st place, operations; 2nd place, economics; and 2nd place, overall; Samarah Derry, 2nd place, operations; 3rd place, economics; and 3rd place, overall
- Business Finance Marketing — Kiely Nolan, 2nd place comprehensive exam; 2nd place, financial analysis; 2nd place, economics; and 2nd place overall
- Hotel and Lodging Management — Cydney Folsom, 2nd place, comprehensive exam; 2nd place, emotional intelligence; 2nd place, market planning; and 1st place, overall winner
- Human Resources Management — Tala Hughes, 1st place, comprehensive exam; 2nd place, emotional intelligence; 3rd place, marketing; and 1st place, overall winner
- Marketing Management Service — Catherine Freeman, 2nd place, operations; 3rd place, economics; and 3rd place, overall winner
- Personal Financial Literacy — Erika Freeman, 1st place, comprehensive exam; 2nd place, risk management/insurance; and 1st place, overall winner
All of the winning DECA members received certificates of achievement, and winners will compete at the state level in March.
