If you are shopping for kindergartens next year, St. Andrew Preschool will have all your resources under one roof later this week.
More than a dozen schools from across the region will attend the northern Suffolk preschool’s annual kindergarten fair from 8:45-10:45 a.m. Jan. 27, said organizer Carol Carnegie. St. Andrew is located at 1885 Bridge Road.
Schools scheduled to attend include Suffolk Public Schools, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, Suffolk Christian Academy and Harbourview Montessori School; Isle of Wight Academy; Trinity Lutheran, St. Andrew’s Episcopal, Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Hampton Roads Academy, all from Newport News; Stonebridge School, Chesapeake; Christopher Academy, Portsmouth; and The Williams School of Norfolk.
To be eligible to attend kindergarten, children have to turn 5 before Sept. 30, Carnegie said.
The Planning Council, a nonprofit organization focused on helping families eat healthy using community resources, will also be on hand at the event, Carnegie said.
The fair is a good opportunity for parents of St. Andrew preschoolers, as well as other local parents in the community, to see what local private and public kindergartens have to offer, Carnegie said. She stressed the event is open to the public and that she expects about 75 people to attend.
“We try to make it convenient for parents … so they don’t have to travel to the different schools in order meet with them,” Carnegie said. “Parents today are savvy … and they really look at curriculums.
“I think most parents will do some shopping before they make these big decisions.”
Also, St. Andrew’s fall registration opens to the public on Feb. 22, Carnegie said.
The school has classes for students from ages 30 months to 4 years and is among only a handful in the area that accepts children so young, she said.
Preschool tours and applications will be available at 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays from Jan. 26-Feb. 29.
Most of St. Andrew’s pre-kindergarten students typically come from Suffolk, Isle of Wight or the Churchland and Western Branch areas, said Carnegie.
