A home was heavily damaged, but nobody was injured, during a house fire Friday afternoon.

The fire in the 100 block of Moore Farm Lane, off Route 10, was reported at 4:14 p.m., according to a city press release. Upon arrival, firefighters found flames showing from the roof at the center of the two-story home. The two adult occupants had escaped the house prior to the arrival of firefighters.

Crews began an interior attack, but the fire had overtaken the entire attic area of the home, according to the release. They withdrew and attacked the fire from outside, then went back in and began an offensive attack that lasted approximately an hour.

The home suffered significant fire and water damage, the release stated.

The Chuckatuck Volunteer Fire Department provided assistance.

The fire was called under control at 5:26 p.m. The cause is currently under investigation.
