KF makes some noise at states

King’s Fork High School’s track and field program registered a few key high points at a surprisingly low-key 2016 Virginia High School League Group 4A state indoor championship meet over the weekend in Liberty University’s Tolsma Center.
Adrian Young, King’s Fork’s coach, noted there were not a lot of record times from any of the schools participating.
He was also hoping for some different marks from his own athletes, though he was not displeased with their efforts.
“I was very proud of their individual performances and the relays,” Young said. “It was very competitive, but we didn’t place as high as we would have hoped.”
Nevertheless, he expects the Bulldogs’ and Lady Bulldogs’ showing to be useful for the future.
“We can use this as a platform, certainly, to build off of going into outdoor (season).”
Placing the highest for King’s Fork at the indoor state meet was senior Shakirah Allen, who took fifth place in the girls’ 55-meter hurdles, finishing in 8.69 seconds.
“She was on nobody’s board going into the season,” Young said. “Nobody really saw her coming. Her performance was remarkable.”
Competing in the triple jump, Diamond Robinson broke another school record and placed seventh in the state.
The Lady Bulldogs senior produced a 35-foot-7-inch mark that eclipsed her own school record distance of 35 feet and 2.5 inches.
“She’s only triple jumped three times,” Young said. “Her outdoor season is probably about to be very special.”
Athletes and relay teams placing in the top eight of their respective events at states earned all-state status.
Joining Allen and Robinson in that honor from King’s Fork were senior Thomas Jones and the Lady Bulldogs’ 4×200-meter relay team.
Jones placed sixth in the boys’ 300-meter dash with a time of 36.08 seconds.
The girls’ 4×200 team also took sixth with a time of 1:49.23. The squad consisted of sophomore Ayshia Allen, sophomore Kaia Young, Shakirah Allen and senior Rayona Tyler.
