A 17-year-old is being charged as an adult in a fatal shooting that happened last week.
Markelyn Lamontre Jones, of the 300 block of North Division Street, is charged with first-degree murder, shoot, stab, cut or wound, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, robbery, and conspiracy to commit a felony in connection with the homicide of 23-year-old Aaron L. Hunter, according to a city press release.
Mandocous J. Rivers, 19, is charged with the same crimes. Both Rivers and Jones were arrested the day after the shooting, which took place about 9:20 p.m. March 11 at the Wilson Pines Apartments in the 2500 block of East Washington Street.
Another 23-year-old was injured in the shooting.
“Virginia State Code prohibits law enforcement from releasing the identity of juveniles that are charged with a criminal offense,” the press release stated. “However, the case has been transferred to adult criminal court.”
Jones is currently being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
