The Easter celebration begins Saturday at one church that meets in North Suffolk.

City Life Church, a non-denominational church from Newport News, began holding Saturday worship services at Faith Lutheran Church, 2730 Bridge Road, in January. City Life is holding its Easter service from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The community is welcome to attend, said Justin White, the church’s pastor.

Most events after the service are all about the kids, White said.

The Easter Bunny will be hopping through, stopping long enough for photos with the children and perhaps to drop off a few eggs, White said.

The church will set up a booth where parents can take their children’s pictures with the Easter Bunny, he said.

The church will also hold an Easter egg hunt after the service, he said. The church is also giving away a couple of donated Easter baskets for the children and, for the adults, gift cards.

City Life usually draws a congregation of between 80 and 90 people per week, White said. The church offers a contemporary worship service, with a full band and large screens on one wall of the sanctuary that features the scripture’s text and the words to hymns.

White hopes to draw a larger crowd for the Easter holiday. The church has handed out fliers and encouraged members to invite friends and neighbors to Saturday’s service.

By having services on Saturdays and having a strong children’s program, City Life is appealing to a large number of young families, said White.

“Saturday worship services are a good fit with the lives of families with young children,” White said. “It provides an option for people who are trying to fit in church services with the kids’ baseball games on Sundays.”

City Life’s main campus in Newport News usually draws between 250 and 300 people, White said. The church also has a satellite campus in Williamsburg.
