Art classes offered

The Suffolk Art League, in conjunction with the Suffolk Art Gallery, will be offering art classes and workshops in April. To register, send the registration form (found on www.suffolkartleague.org) with the student’s name, mailing address, daytime phone number and registration fee to Suffolk Art League, P.O. Box 1086, Suffolk, VA 23439, or drop it by the Suffolk Art Gallery, 118 Bosley Ave. Checks are payable to Suffolk Art League. You may register with a credit card over the phone at 925-0448. For children’s classes, include their age and a parent’s name. Beginning/Intermediate Pastel

Tuesdays, April 5 to May 10, 9 to 11 a.m.
For ages 14 to adult
Registration fee is $48 members/$55 non-members per session
Registration deadline is March 29.
Beginning students will start with basic drawing and color exercises, quickly building to more complex compositions. No prior experience necessary. A complete suggested material list is available at time of registration. Both class and individual instruction offered.
Intermediate/Advanced Pastel

Tuesdays, April 5 to May 10, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
For ages 14 to adult

Intermediate and advanced pastel students will continue to improve their drawing skills while working on subject of their own choice. Both class and individual instruction offered. A complete suggested materials list is available at time of registration.
Home School Art Program
Instructor: Cindy Quesenberry
Mondays, April 4 and May 2, 1 to 3 p.m.
For ages 7 to 14
Registration fee for individual session is $18 members/$25 non-members per individual session
Registration deadline is one week prior to the class.
Each month students will use a different medium to create their artwork. April students will learn to tool on copper and May students will learn paper marbleizing. All materials are included for these classes.
Young Artists
Instructor: Linda Bunch
Thursdays, April 14 and May 12
10 to 11 a.m.
For ages 3 to 5
Registration fee is $6 members/$10 non-members per session.
Registration deadline is one week prior to the class.
These young artists will have fun while participating in age appropriate art activities. All necessary materials included. Wear appropriate clothing to get messy.
Introduction to Cold Wax Workshop
Instructor: Eloise Shelton-Mayo
Saturday, April 9, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a lunch break
Registration fee is $75 members/$85 non-members
Registration deadline is April 2.
For Ages 14 to adult
Learn the cold wax method of creating a painting. This method is similar to encaustic but does not use heat, thus the appearance has a more matte finish. The students will have four boards each to work with. All materials will be provided for this class.
Sculpture with Recycled/Reclaimed Materials Workshop

Saturday, April 30, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

For Ages 14 to adult
Are you ready to turn trash to treasure? During this class students will explore sculpture construction with items we would normally recycle or throw away. After the sculpture is created, you can use acrylic paint for finishing touches. If you have any item you want to use in your sculpture, please feel free to bring it. All necessary materials included. This workshop is being held in conjunction with the “Handle with Care” environmental art exhibit.
North Suffolk classes
Inspired by the Masters held at the Riverfront Swim Club, 5301 Sports Club Run

Wednesdays, April 6 to 27, 4:30 to 6 p.m.
For ages 6 to 14
Registration fee is $45 members/$55 non-members
Each week the students will be introduced to a Master Artist for inspiration in creating a mixed media artwork. Several styles will be addressed such as Impressionism, Surrealism and Cubism. Each artist will be discussed regarding their contributions to the history of art and their connections to events in the world at their time.
