Priceless Pets Photo Pageant returns
Do you have a priceless pet? A purty pooch?
Enter the Suffolk News-Herald’s online 2016 Priceless Pets Photo Pageant, and your furry friend could win recognition and an award during the Suffolk Humane Society’s annual Mutt Strut event, set for May 1 at Bennett’s Creek Park.
This year, it’s easier — and cheaper — to enter than ever. Just email a photo of your four-legged (or two-winged, for that matter) friend to news@suffolknewsherald.com. We’ll gather all the entries this week and open online voting on our special contest website April 10. Entries must be received by 5 p.m. April 8 in order to be included in the voting.
The contest is entirely free this year, both for entrants and for voters. However, to give as many of the city’s furry and feathered friends as possible a chance at stardom, the contest is limited to pets that have not won during the past two years of contests.
The People’s Choice winner will be the pet with the most online votes by the time the contest closes, at midnight April 19. Two runners-up also will be named.
Winners will receive an award and recognition at Mutt Strut, along with a story about their pets in a special edition to be inserted into the Suffolk News-Herald on April 27. The winning pet will be given a place of honor in the Mutt Strut’s main pledge walk.
Mutt Strut is an annual fundraiser for the humane society, whose dual mission is to promote the bond between animals and people and to reduce the problem of pet overpopulation through education, advocacy, adoption and spay/neuter programs.

Brush the knots out of Spike’s fur, grab the camera and tell that puppy to smile. He could be Suffolk’s next fluffy star.
