The Chesapeake City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved rezoning 4.2 acres in Western Branch for a new medical facility.
Bon Secours Hampton Roads will lease the proposed 30,000-square-foot, two-story building on Taylor Road, across from Chesapeake Square, said developer Chris Sanders, of Robinson Development Group.
Plans also call for Robinson to build an adjacent 5,600-square-foot building to lease for retail use.
Bon Secours expects to move into the new facility by summer 2017, said spokeswoman Lynne Zultanky.
Two existing medical practices, Internists at Western Branch and Internists of Churchland, will relocate to the building, said Zultanky. The building will also house In Motion Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine and an occupational therapy group and will have on-site access to radiology and lab capabilities, she said.
The project is expected to generate roughly $200,000 in real estate and personal property taxes for the city annually, Sanders said.
