Morris Rashawn Newsome, 28, is charged with assaulting a police officer and throwing missiles at occupied vehicles.

According to city spokeswoman Diana Klink, officers were on Hennesy Cup Way on another call for service when a minivan driver flagged them down and told them a person walking down Shoulders Hill Road had struck his windshield with a rock.

The driver described the suspect as a black male wearing a camouflage hoodie pulled over his head, Klink wrote in an email.

While officers were looking for the suspect, dispatch received a call from another driver whose vehicle had been damaged and who provided the same description.

An officer found a man matching the description in the parking lot of a business in the 3500 block of Shoulders Hill Road.

“When the officer encountered the subject, he immediately began assaulting the officer and didn’t obey commands given by other responding officers,” Klink wrote. “The subject eventually complied and was handcuffed.”

The officer went to a local hospital for treatment of injuries not deemed life-threatening, Klink said.
