Solar farm workers sought
A Georgia company is hiring approximately 200 workers to build one of Virginia Dominion Power’s first solar farms in Virginia, to be located in Isle of Wight County.
Amec Foster Wheeler is looking for electricians, carpenters, cement finishers, solar panel installers, heavy equipment operators and laborers for the six-month project.
The company will hold a hiring fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 21 at the Smithfield Center, 220 N. Church St., Smithfield.
Applicants can apply before the event by visiting the company’s website, www.amecfw.com/skilled-trades-us, or by calling 1-800-526-8324.
Walk-in applicants are also welcome.
The 19-megawatt solar farm will be built on 200 acres off Longview Drive and will produce enough electricity to power 3,500 homes, according to Dominion Power.
The company has two other solar farms in the works, in Powhatan and Louisa counties.
