Expect an epic paintball war, go-kart races, jousting and sumo wrestling.

Those are just some of the “manly” opportunities that will be available at Community Church’s first Bros Conference, from 6 to 11 p.m. June 17 at the Chesapeake church at 1935 Jolliff Road. There will also be human soccer, beating up a junked car and plenty of eats.

The event is open to any young — or young-at-heart — men over the age of 13, according to the church’s website. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased via a link on Community Church’s website, www.communitychurch.info.

Roughly 300 of 500 tickets to the Bros Conference have been sold, said Dawn Sutherland, the church’s communications director. The men’s conference is a first for Community Church, although the annual women’s conference every December is always popular, she said.

Michael Brueseke, senior pastor at Community Church, will speak toward the end of the night, said Sutherland.

“Our real targets are the men who don’t go to church,” Sutherland said. “We want them to come here and have a good time.

“We want to build relationships with the men in this community,” she added. “Strong men mean strong families … and we believe in family.”

Community Church is growing its footprint in Suffolk, with plans to expand into the downtown area next year, Sutherland said. The church is looking at potential sites now.
