Suffolk’s Trish Webb recently was named the Metro Conference Player of the Year for the third consecutive year.

Webb is a senior at Isle of Wight Academy and has produced an illustrious softball career. Not only is this the third time that Webb has received this award, but also she has been an All-VISAA softball performer in 2014 and 2015.

“It was definitely a great feeling knowing that all of my hard work has paid off,” Webb said. “I was really excited about getting the award again. I’m just very thankful and blessed.”

Setting her sights towards the future, Webb has already signed a letter of intent to the University of South Carolina Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C. Although she is currently a pitcher at IWA, Webb can’t wait to take on her role as third baseman and shortstop at South Carolina Upstate.

“Right now I would much rather play on the field as a defensive player than being a pitcher. I wouldn’t mind pitching, but my passion is definitely third,” Webb said.

Webb said her father has mainly coached and trained her. She recalls playing various types of sports, but softball was the one that stood out to her.

“I started playing T-ball when I was 5 and started playing softball when I was 7, so I’ve been playing my whole life. Softball just stood out to me,” Webb said.

Her mother, Cheryl Webb, has been supportive since the beginning.

“I’m proud of her,” she said. “I knew that it wasn’t always easy but she has a good work ethic and has always worked hard. I’m thankful that she will be able to pursue her dreams.”

Webb’s softball career has landed her different awards and enabled her to get a full scholarship at South Carolina Upstate along with her academics. While remembering her time playing for Isle of Wight Academy, she sees the struggle and the success that came from it.

“My softball experience was a lot of hard work and dedication. I worked hard to get a lot of practice and tournaments in, but it was definitely worth it,” she said.

Reminiscing on her time on the field at IWA, the one moment that stands out to her the most is when she was recruited for college.

“The day I got recruited for South Carolina Upstate was the day I knew all my hard work had paid off. I was really looking forward to my future and knew everything was going to work out.”
