Storms that rolled through Suffolk Sunday evening caused a fire at a Cedar Point home after it was struck by lightning.

The fire was reported at 9:17 p.m. in the 8900 block of River Crescent, and the first units arrived on scene at 9:20 p.m., according to a city press release.

Battalion Chief Andre Durham said firefighters found light smoke showing from the right rear corner of the two-story structure from a window in the kitchen area. It was determined that the house had been struck by lightning, which caused three sockets to blow out and the fire to travel under the house and into a wall, according to the release.
